Nizza - French Rivera
With nearly 400.000 inhabitants, Nice is one of the biggest French cities and a favourite summer destination. The city is situated in a narrow plain overlooking the Mediterranean sea, with green hills all around.
Beside its beaches, Nice offers many other attractions, like museums and art galleries, for instance the famous “Contemporary art museum”, with works by neorealist European and American artists, or the fabulous “Musée Matisse”, entirely dedicated to the works of the famous French artist.
Absolutely worthy of note are the “Musée Chagall” and “Museum of fine arts”, with paintings by Monet, Renoir, Van Loo and many others.
Among the most important architectural works are the orthodox cathedral of San Nicola, characterised by six golden domes and numerous mosaics, frescoes and wooden icons; the baroque Cathedral of Ste. Reparate, finely decorated with marbles; the Lascaris Palace with a majestic flight of steps, a drugstore of the XVIII century; and the beautiful Flemish tapestries.
